Animals have been a part of our lives since we were little. We did wildlife rescue, raised cows, lambs, goats, donkeys, had cats, dogs, skunks, you name it, we had it. On the side of working @ Lindsay Corporation, my mom bread and sold dogs here at our farm and did that for years and years. When my younger sister was just 11 years old, she wanted to start making a little extra money on the side and didn’t really want to babysit, so she thought about watching people’s pets while they were gone. She made her own flier and hung it up all around our 700-person town. It started in an old building with dirt floors using old fencing for kennels. A couple years later our parents decided to pour some cement for the building and add just a couple more kennels. The small little hometown business was going strong with 4 kennels. In 2009 after my younger sister graduated, my little sister took over for years after. In 2011 I moved back from college and helped a little bit on the side with the dogs just to make some extra money. Here I was doing some work for my little sister Sadie. In 2016 my husband and I purchased my home place (with the dog boarding) and mom and dad built new about a mile away. We turned my mother’s breeding shed into kennels to do a little expanding. We were constantly full every single weekend with 5 kennels at this point. At the end of 2017, we decided to build bigger.  So, my husband and father built my boarding facility and got it up and running in 2018 and named it “Banks Boarding”.In 2020, my mother’s job of 30 years was moving to Omaha, NE and she had the option to move with them or quit. Being married to a farmer, she couldn’t just up and leave. We came up with the idea of dog grooming here and she went down to Missouri for grooming school. In the meantime, my husband fixed up and turned the boarding shed (her old breeding shed) into a grooming building. In 2020, I also hired my sister Sadie back to work full time in the dog boarding business. This truly has been a family circle business. Being around animals our entire life, to running a business with animals has been nothing short of a blessing.
